Who we do commercial roofing for

Managing agents, including Prime Management in Bromley. Churches, including St Mark's on Westmoreland Road in Bromley, where 120 mm of insulation and a three-layer felt went over the old hall roof in September 2024: about 120 m² in two weeks, and a hall that is far cheaper to heat. Clubs: Steve roofed the Beckenhamians Rugby Club in West Wickham in 2021, 220 square metres of torch-on felt over 120 mm insulation in three weeks.

Blocks and garages for managing agents. Around 2015, Steve's previous company re-roofed about 40 garages in the communal blocks on The Avenue in Beckenham for a management company. The flats look straight down on them, so the client chose a red mineral felt instead of the usual grey.

What a customer said

"On behalf of my church, I employed Raise the Roofs London Limited to install a new roof on the church hall of St. Mark's Church, Bromley. I have great praise for the company."

"Client duties apply in full to commercial clients (for domestic clients the duties normally pass to other dutyholders). A commercial client is any individual or organisation that carries out a construction project as part of a business."

Health and Safety Executive, CDM 2015: commercial clients

A managing agent commissioning a roof for a block is a commercial client in that sense, with the client duties that go with it. Checking who you appoint is part of those duties, and the insurance and membership details below are the place to start.

The hospital roof and the MRI scanner

In February 2025, working for a main contractor at Hammersmith Hospital, we opened up about 30 m² of flat roof so a scanner of around 6.5 tonnes could be lifted out by mobile crane over a weekend. The opening was sealed with large tarpaulins until the lift, then boarded over and sealed for good in a material compatible with the original roof. As Steve put it: "We love challenging contracts like this."

Insurance and paperwork for commercial roofing

We carry £5m public liability and £10m employers' liability, and our policy covers hot works, which matters on any torch-on job. We have been members of the Confederation of Roofing Contractors since 1996.

"Roof fires caused by gas torches, no matter how minor, pose a serious threat to life, property, the image of the industry and possibly even the long-term future of torch-on as an accepted method of covering a roof."

National Federation of Roofing Contractors, Safe2Torch campaign

That's why the hot works line on a roofer's insurance matters more than the headline figure. We are CoRC members rather than NFRC, but the point stands for any contractor: if a roof is going to be torched, ask to see the cover for it.
