Guttering, fascias and soffits in Bromley and West Wickham So the water goes where it should
A roof is only as good as what carries the water away. Leaking, sagging or blocked guttering soaks walls and rots the timber behind it, and the fascia and soffit boards hold the edge of the roof together.

Gutter repairs and replacement
A gutter that overflows or drips at the joints puts water down the face of the wall, and over years that means damp inside. We repair joints and brackets, or replace runs that have sagged or split.
What a customer said
"We needed repairs to the roof and guttering. All work was carried to specification and to our satisfaction."
"Gutters should be laid with any fall towards the nearest outlet."
HM Government, Approved Document H, paragraph 1.6
It sounds obvious, but a run that has sagged between brackets no longer falls to anything. Water sits in the dip and finds the nearest joint, and re-setting the run so it falls to its outlet again is sometimes all a dripping gutter needs.

Fascias and soffits
The fascia carries the gutter and the bottom edge of the roof, and the soffit closes the gap underneath. When the timber behind them has rotted, covering it up only hides the problem, so we look behind before we quote.
It was a fascia and soffit job on a Bromley extension that led us to the plain tiles laid at 5.5 degrees above it. Looking at the whole roof is a habit worth having.
"If gutters are fixed to timber fascia boards, check the condition of fascia boards and at the same time soffit and barge boards"
Historic England, Maintenance checklist for an older home
That's the order we work in too. A gutter that has been overflowing is often what tells you the fascia behind it has rotted, and the soffit and barge boards are usually in the same state.

Signs your gutters, fascias or soffits need work
Most of it can be seen from the garden. Look for a green or dark stain down the wall under a gutter joint, a run that dips between its brackets, or water spilling over the front in heavy rain. On the boards, look for paint that keeps flaking, timber that's split or soft at the ends, and gaps where a soffit has dropped away from the wall.
Birds going in and out under the eaves are a sign too: they've found a gap that also lets in wind and rain. None of this needs a ladder to spot, and a photo taken from the ground is enough for Steve to tell you what he sees. More on what to check on our roof repairs page.
The doorstep gutter-clearing scam
In August 2025 a customer in Kennington had a knock on the door: someone offering to clear her gutters. Once they were up there, she was told her slates were damaged. The roof had been damaged on purpose, and she paid more than £6,000 for repairs that were never done. We quoted, and two days later reinstated the roof with new materials. The whole story is on our slate bay reinstatement page.
Gutters are the way in because everyone's gutters could do with a look. If someone knocks uninvited offering gutter work, don't let them on the roof. Ask for the company name and check it on Companies House, ask for photos of anything they say they've found, and get a second quote before you pay a penny. We never take a deposit, on any job.

How much do new fascias and soffits cost?
Fascias and soffits start from £720 inc VAT (£600 + VAT).
Do you clear gutters?
No, we do not offer gutter cleaning on its own. We repair and replace guttering, fascias and soffits.
Can a dripping gutter be repaired rather than replaced?
Often, yes. A run that has sagged between brackets can be re-set so it falls to its outlet again, and a leaking joint can be resealed. If a repair will do, that's what we quote.
Do I need scaffolding for guttering work?
Not always. Short jobs can be done from a properly secured ladder. Long runs, or gutters we can't reach safely, need scaffolding, which is shown separately on the quote.
Will you look at the roof while you're at the gutters?
Yes. On a Bromley extension we'd been asked to price the fascias, and found the plain tiles above them laid at 5.5 degrees, far too flat for tiles.

Gutters overflowing?
Free quotes, and we visit within 2 days. No deposit. If it only needs a repair, we'll tell you.
